We have appointed experienced industry leader Jon Cowen to the newly-created post of Creative Director.
Jon will be at the heart of driving the development of Aurora’s non-scripted ambitions, heading up our non-live department. His role will encompass long-form documentaries, brand and digital storytelling.
As a multi-BAFTA winner and nominee, Jon brings over 15 years of directing and producing in film and television to the role. Jon’s broadcast career has seen him work on a broad range of prime-time content for UK and international broadcasters, from BAFTA-nominated film My Life: Karate Kids to Grierson-nominated gonzo-style feature Tory Boy: The Movie. As a Director, Jon has specialised in crafting factual entertainment series, taking on genres from travelogue, lifestyle and comedy, often with A-list talent, always finding ways to tell niche stories to a mass audience.
It’s an honour to be joining the team at Aurora. Their industry leading work in sports broadcast has created an incredible world for a storyteller to step into. Sport is a universal unifier, its inherent drama is the ideal launchpad into stories that speak to broader emotional and social themes.
Jon’s appointment underscores our ambitions in the unscripted space, as we seek to expand on our strengths in the live sporting arena. Jon will oversee digital and short-form, branded and long-form documentaries, using his extensive skillset in factual storytelling to help Aurora deliver innovative, premium content across all platforms.
Jon will report directly to recently appointed Chief Content Officer Dominique Cutts, as part of Aurora’s expansion of our sports-adjacent and original programming output.
Jon is not only a first-class storyteller but also a true creative who is constantly innovating, pushing boundaries and executing at the highest level. Jon's appointment underscores our ambitions for the company in the unscripted space.
