Aurora has been the host broadcast partner since the inaugural Extreme E season in 2021.
Extreme E is an innovative and radical new off-road racing series that showcases electric SUVs and future technologies in some of the world’s most remote and challenging environments.
The first sport to be built out of a social purpose, Extreme E utilises its platform to help promote electrification, environment and equality. Racing in locations damaged by climate change, the goal is to maximise awareness around these issues, whilst minimising the environmental impact.
Everything about Extreme E was new, with genuine never-attempted-before ambition. The locations, logistics, broadcast technology, formatting and editorial were all attempts to break new ground, with some world firsts executed.
One of the biggest achievements of the series was developing, planning and building a new series from the ground up, all during the height of the pandemic.
With no crowd on-site at these remote locations, the broadcast is the central product. We formatted the event to ensure direct competition between male and female drivers. We employed a hybrid storytelling model, blending climate change content and sports action.
Racing without a trace is the core ethos for Extreme E. This is achieved through true innovation at every stage: event logistics, infrastructure, partners and crucially the broadcast technology.
The media product we have developed is market-leading in its use of remote production, technical innovation, dynamic storytelling, environmental and sporting data to create a vibrant suite of graphics and ground-breaking AR/VR technology.
